Special permit for buses this holy week – LTFRB

SPECIAL permits will be issued by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to public utility buses (PUBs) this coming Holy Week.
LTFRB Technical Division chief Joel Bolano on Tuesday said that they are processing the special permits for 712 bus units to augment the current number of buses that travel from Metro Manila to the provinces and vice versa with the expected influx of passengers for the religious occasion.
“During Holy Week, we always see to it that additional PUBs are available for the commuting public,” Bolano said in a public briefing.
The LTFRB has extended the period of validity of the special permits from March 31 to April 17 instead of April 2 to 11, 2023 as announced earlier.
The extension of the validity of the special permits under LTFRB Board Resolution 009 is in line with Malacañang’s Proclamation 90 declaring April 6, 2023, Maundy Thursday, and April 7, 2023, Good Friday, as regular holidays.
Under the proclamation, the Araw ng Kagitingan (April 9, 2023), which falls on a Sunday, is moved to April 10, 2023, Monday.
The LTFRB resolution was issued in anticipation of the bulk of passengers going home to their respective provinces owing to the long holidays, less travel restrictions, and opening of the country’s economy.
Bolano said starting next week, LTFRB personnel will inspect bus terminals in Metro Manila to ensure that these have ample facilities for their passengers, particularly the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) and Araneta Bus Terminal in Cubao, Quezon City.
